project 355: (insert Final Fantasy level up theme)

the next installment of my fridae posts in case you're not gay, in case like me, you're just not that internet-savvy.

more or less, it's molest

anyways, here's a bit of a follow-up with regards to all things post-molest. Glistening Eye colleague went home to tell her husband whom she has been married with for barely over a month. another colleague from the hospital (she's in the debate team) went to tell her boyfriend of four years. i also posed the scenario to several other straight friends over an outing of beer and crummy peanuts. and both replies that came back were typical hetero responses. paraphrased as loosely as a chee bye in need of reconstruction, they went something like:

'puke seahl. why your friend never go punch the guy seahl? kepala butoh, you should tell your friend go complain to the manager!'

equally translated (as loosely as a bottom's butthole) from behasa melayu to modern day Singlish:

'vagina lah. why didn't your friend punch the guy lah? asshole-head, you should tell your friend to approach his manager and lodge a complaint!'

two colleagues with boyfriends and another group of straight people, all with know prior knowledge of each other's existence. yet, all of them have similar responses to molest, namely involving vengeance, violence and a whole lot of vulgarities. ugh... straight men. not that i want to stereotype, but don't stereotypes always speak for themselves?

it's a question that i've always asked myself when it comes to these straight male friends of mine. they make great drinking buddies and can make excellent conversation about blockbuster films and the occasional witty remark about life and its cock-ups. but why, oh why, is the stereotypical alpha male always so brash and impetuous when it comes to defending the honor of their gentalia? i can understand if there's a mad killer complete with vicious tools and insane mental complex brandishing a scalpel against one's gnads with threats of a satanic circumcision ritual. you would have every reason to whip out a chainsaw as a preventive measure.

but when i think harder about it, it's just molest. and like i said in the fridae post: it never did anyone any harm. and it will not do any harm to me too if i were to just sit on it and hope it hatches into something positive in the end.

though he was in a drunken stupor, one of the more mature straight friends of mine gave an excellent response:

'Just take it as experience points lor. Wah. Level up already!'

all straight men should skip water and just take beer permanently.

Reading your article on Fridae, I find myself wondering how I would react in the same situation.

As a Student Nurse, I think you conducted yourself in as much a professional manner as you possibly could under the circumstances. If anything, your colleagues are at fault for allowing your experience to become fodder for gossip, and breaking patient confidentiality.

Sexual Harassment has been a topic of discussion in my nursing courses, as well as in the hospital, but it has usually been directed solely at the women in my section. As a Male Student Nurse, the only issue I'm warned about is, "don't be surprised if you're always picked to lift or assist in moving a client."

In addition, being one of the only Asians in my clinical sections, I'm usually assigned the Asian clients. My clinical instructors (and nurses on the floor) usually do not know what type of Asian he/she is (Korean, Japanese, etc.). And if the patient is Chinese, more often than not, nobody knows if Cantonese or Mandarin is his/her native tongue.

I am deeply sorry if your encounter with this patient affected you in a negative manner, but always remember why we entered into this field: To provide care with trust, respect, honesty, equality, and altruism.

speaking from a shy & timid female point of view, if i were to get molested, although no tangible harm was done, the shock that was sent has given me enough psychological harm that i think i can probably start biting someone. but then on the other hand, it's just an invasion of privacy. which really can be added to the list of 'wiseness' as one age for self protection purpose i guess. hmm..

zocalo: i think i just happened to be above the market value in the ward lah, given that everybody there just looks average. not that good-looking, really (gives pai seh look).

savante: that's the weird thing about molest. when a hunky guy touches you, it's sex. but when an ah pek caresses you, it's molest. context, people. context. and don't worry. i'm very giving.

blury: like you said, luv, it's just an invasion of privacy. and in this internet time and age, no such thing left as privacy. still got my privates left though. and i intend to make full use of it.

lol you're hilarious.. i guess i would do the same and just let the matter pass..

but really i don't think you can classify straight males like that. i am pretty sure that there are gay guys out there who would not hesitate to respond in the same manner given the situation.

either way, you've decided that there was no harm done to yourself and you've leveled up so who cares what others say :p
